Literacy is linked to sustained income growth, better healthcare access, improved job prospects for justice-involved and returning citizens, and stronger language and literacy skills among children. But in South Carolina, one out of five adults—about 22%—need foundational literacy skills support. This includes reading, writing, numeracy, and digital literacy skills.
Members of the Adult Literacy and Learning Impact Network (ALL IN) are teaming up with education and workforce leaders across the Lowcountry to design a model for increasing literacy skills across the region. To start, we mapped multiple literacy access points in the Tri-County Region. The purpose of this map is to identify the existing education programs and services, identify potential gaps, and strengthen partnerships and outcomes across the community.
